Columbia, South Carolina has been a city that has been on my bucket list for a while now. I finally got the opportunity to visit this beautiful city and explore all that it has to offer.
The first thing that struck me about Columbia was the beautiful weather. I visited in the springtime and the weather was perfect – not too hot, not too cold. The springtime also meant that the city was in full bloom with beautiful flowers and trees. Everywhere I turned there was a beautiful garden or park to explore.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. This zoo is one of the best I have ever been to. It has a huge variety of animals, from elephants to koalas. The highlight for me was the gorilla exhibit. The gorillas were so close that I could almost touch them. The gardens were also stunning with a huge variety of plants and flowers.
Another must-see attraction in Columbia is the State House. This building is a beautiful example of Greek Revival architecture and is the home of the South Carolina General Assembly. There are guided tours available that explain the history of the building and the state.
If you’re a history buff, then you must visit the South Carolina State Museum. This museum is the largest in the state and has exhibits on everything from dinosaurs to space exploration. There is also a planetarium and a 4D theater.
Food is a big part of any trip, and Columbia did not disappoint. I tried some of the best Southern food I have ever had. One of my favorite restaurants was Lizard’s Thicket. This restaurant is a local favorite and serves up delicious Southern classics like fried chicken and mac and cheese.
Overall, Columbia, South Carolina exceeded my expectations. It is a beautiful city with so much to see and do. Whether you’re a history buff, an animal lover, or a foodie, there is something for everyone in Columbia.
