The Lincoln Memorial is located on The Mall’s west end, facing the Washington Monument and the United States Capitol to the east. This is a large scale landmark constructed in the style of a Greek Temple and surrounded by 36 doric columns, one for each state of the union (at the time of Lincoln’s assassination). The famous seated figure of President Lincoln is housed within the temple.

The Lincoln Memorial is perfectly situated in front of the 618-metre-long Reflection Pool, providing visitors with spectacular views of The Mall and other monuments from this vantage point.
